Exceptional consignments - Regulations concerning the preparation and management of exceptional consignments

This IRS:

- defines the term "exceptional consignment" and

- "regulates the approval and authorisation procedure between one or several railwayundertakings (RUs)/infrastructure managers (IMs)/railways.

It is binding for all UIC railway undertakings involved in the international carriage of exceptionalconsignments.

Individual RUs and/or IMs may also conclude agreements with one another that deviate from theprovisions of this document. This only applies for the exceptional consignments referred to in thisIRS and only for the carriage of consignments between the contractual partners.

The regulations pertaining to the carriage of exceptional consignments on railways with a trackgauge of 1520 mm will be integrated into this IRS once the content has been coordinated andagreed with the OSJD.
