We have taken an important step forward with this valuable UIC cost benchmarking together with some of our European Railway Members on this new report, giving an overview of the last 15 years in the area of Infrastructure Maintenance and
Renewals.
New members have joined the project, giving this survey a wider overview.
Implementations of new methodology and an online collaborative tool have improved the collection, checking and data analysis on behalf of participants.
Benchmarking is a practical tool for improving performance by learning from best practices and understanding the procedures by which they are achieved. It should lead to a better understanding of costs and is therefore a means to assist better planning and forecasting and to help set enhancing but realistic objectives.
This report presents a review of this experience and points the way towards future activities in this area at UIC.
