Status of the competition for long distance trips at the aggregated level

The report provide the following information:

• Main features of competition legal status in each transport means;
• Main sources of data for both supply and demand;
• List of corresponding major actors;
• Example of ODs where competition is active;
• Pros and cons of each mode;
• List of main bus and carpooling websites;
• Comparison of the competing modes in terms of reliability, safety and security;
• Example of complementarity between modes.

Finally, once the status of the competition is completed, the second objective of the project will be prepared by defining the geographic perimeter, identifying the main modal choice criteria and designing 3 qualitative scenarios for the future competition.
 

This study is conducted by Systra for France, England and Spain and by DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C) for Germany, Italy and Spain. Legal status, example of ODs, pros and cons of each modes, comparison of the competing modes and complementarity between modes have been entirely conducetd by SYSTRA.
