Layout of driver's cabs in locomotives, railcars, multiple-unit trains and driving trailers

Summary

These provisions apply to locomotives, railcars, multiple-unit trains and driving trailers powered by different means of traction, but not by steam traction.

They are not only designed to facilitate international traffic, but also to give general pointers for the layout of drivers' cabs.

Apart from specific features, these rules apply equally to shunting locomotives (see also UIC Leaflet 646 ).

The rules contained in this leaflet are based on the gauge definition given in UIC Leaflet 505 . It is possible that railways with a smaller gauge may not be able to comply with the provisions in the leaflet covering:

In this case, a waiver must be requested if the vehicles are to be used in international traffic.
