Transport of road vehicles on wagons - Technical Organisation - Conveyance of semi-trailers with P coding or N coding on recess wagons

In some cases, the conveyance of intermodal loading units (ILU) on wagons or bogies will cause the upper part of the loading gauge of railway lines to be fouled.

Semi-trailers compliant with the conditions set out in IRS 50596-5, loaded on fixed-recess carrier wagons (pocket wagons) in accordance with IRS 50571-4, are used with the coding system defined in IRS 50596-6.

This is intended to ensure the compatibility of semi-trailers with the permissible profile for combined transport lines and the safety requirements specific to combined transport.

This IRS sets out technical requirements and conditions for loading (via vertical transhipment) and conveying semi-trailers on fixed-recess carrier wagons with compatibility code P or N in accordance with IRS 50596-6.
