Guide. Guidelines for the implementation of the EU safety Directive (2004/49/EC) in a form of a management system for Railway Undertakings
The European Directive on Railway Safety (2004/49/EC) provides in Article 9 for the obligatory establishment of operational safety management systems by railway undertakings and infrastructure managers. The present document is the output of a project group made up of experts with experience in this area or with the introduction of management systems in the rail sector. In addition to a railway-specific interpretation of the EU Safety Directive the manual contains the necessary information on the integration of safety management systems into existing management systems corresponding to ISO 9001:2000. The European Railway Agency (ERA) is currently preparing binding transposition provisions. The requirements contained in those texts may result in additions or amendments to this guide following their entry into force.
