Braking Problems - Test report from simplified braking tests conducted with the Bremskerl 8675H and Becorit K26 composite K brake blocks under winter conditions in Finland February-March 2008
The field tests under winter conditions with the Bremskerl 8675H and Becorit K26 brake blocks produced the following results:
- with the Bremskerl 8675H, the braking power under winter conditions was about 25 % lower compared to reference conditions (initial speed of 100 km/h);
- with the Becorit K26, the braking power under winter conditions was about 20 % lower compared to reference conditions (initial speed of 100 km/h);
- with the Bremskerl 8675H, the mean braked weight percentage value under winter conditions was 66,1 % and under reference conditions 85,3 % (initial speed of 100 km/h);
- with the Becorit K26, the mean braked weight percentage value under winter conditions was 86,7 % and under reference conditions 107,6 % (initial speed of 100 km/h). The calculated braked weight percentage value was 107,5 %;
- during the bench tests the stopping distances lengthened by 67 % (initial speed of 100 km/h), whereas during the field tests the stopping distances lengthened by 25 % (initial speed of 100 km/h);
- no bench test results were available at the time of writing this report.
