Concluding report on an optimised brake rigging for wagons fitted with composite brake blocks (K)
The use of K blocks results in significantly reduced brake forces, enabling the mechanical brake rigging to be redimensioned.
Investigation of this new brake rigging is based on ORE standard drawings of a Y25 bogie and the associated central brake rigging.
Work consisted of determining the load spectrum and redesigning/redimensioning all the brake rigging components, from the cylinder lever to the brake block holder. The potential for weight
savings represents a key factor in determining whether it is economically viable to develop a 45 kN brake rigging.
Following its construction, the 45 kN brake rigging was service-tested.
