Intermodal Loading Units (other than semi-trailers) for vertical transshipment and suitable for carriage on wagons - Minimum requirements
In some cases, the conveyance of intermodal loading units (ILUs) on wagons or bogies will cause the upper part of the loading gauge of railway lines to be fouled.
ILUs that comply with the conditions set out in this IRS loaded on carrier wagons in accordance with IRS 50571-4 [1] are used in the coding system defined in IRS 50596-6 [3].
This is intended to ensure the compatibility of the above-mentioned ILUs with the permissible profile for combined transport lines and the safety requirements specific to combined transport.
The present IRS :
- provides the list of all the intermodal transport units (ILUs) other than semi-trailers that may be transported by rail,
- lists the references for standardised ILUs and specifies the minimum requirements for specific ILUs,
- Provides procedures for the approval, coding and certification of the ILUs other than semi-trailers.
