Train Track Interaction Sector - Aerodynamics
The field of aerodynamics still presents top-level challenges in the development of the railway sector across the world. In the past, these have been almost exclusively related to high speed passenger services and the design and operation of their specialised lines as speeds increased.
Today, however, many of these lines are designed in the medium- and long-term for mixed traffic, including freight services, as a result of the required modal shift from road transport to rail, which should contribute to increasing the intermodality and sustainability of global transportation.
Taking a worldwide approach, the UIC Train Track Interaction (TTI) Sector wants to focus on these concerns and provide roadmaps on this topic to create new solutions. This WHITE PAPER on AERODYNAMICS marks the beginning of this process and reflects on the state of the art, current problems and proposals for projects to research and create solutions to provide infrastructure managers (IM) and railway undertakings (RU) with possibilities for steering the main initiatives and also facilitating its implementation.
