Future Railway Mobile Communication System

The purpose of this document is to define a set a technology independent user requirements for the FRMCS.

The technology independent user requirements for the future radio mobile communications are defined in the form of individual applications. Each application has been defined to provide or support an identified communications need that is considered necessary for current and future railway operations. The inclusion of an application is justified by an identified use case (rationale).

The document’s role is to consult/inform standardisation bodies and the supply industry, identifying the railway-specific needs to be considered when solutions are proposed. This document is also used in other FRMCS development groups (for example, Spectrum working group and Architecture working group).
