Braking Questions - Basic principles for the 2nd edition of UIC Leaflet 541-03 Driver’s Brake valve
The decision for a major review of UIC Leaflet 541-03 (Driver’s brake valve) was taken by UIC SET 7 (Sector Expert Team “Braking”) in 2009. The motivation was that the old leaflet dating from 1984 was not considered state-of-the-art for the requirements for a modern driver’s brake valve.
The first edition of the leaflet does not contain any requirements for electronic devices.
The leaflet contains the general conditions for the driver’s brake valve/driver’s brake controller.
It describes the required properties of the driver’s brake valve/driver’s brake controller for different technologies (mechanical, electrical, electronic, data-processing, etc.), the definitions, test methods and measurements, the documentation for the hardware and the software, the related test programmes and acceptance criteria to be complied with, and the procedure for issuing a UIC certificate.
