UIC -Asia Energy Conservation Project. Case Study-Indian Railways
On review of developments currently taking place in other parts of the world, it emerged that Energy Management System (EMS) is a powerful enabler of energy conservation. EMS monitors and archives the energy consumption at important nodes of a power system at pre-set time intervals and it provides several other functionalities for efficient power supply management. The archived energy data helps to study the consumption at one node vis-à-vis another comparable node at a point of time and analyze the variation in energy consumption at a node at different points of time. This helps to identify slacks in the system and it enables benchmarking and fixing of optimum energy consumption for individual nodes. Besides, the efficient management of power supply also helps to eliminate wastages.
