IP Introduction to Railways – Version 2.0 – Guideline for the fixed telecommunication network
This guideline has been initiated by Refer Telecom and the UIC Headquarters, and developed within the UIC Panel of Telecom Experts. The current document extends the first edition that has been published in 2012 with more detailed information concerning the migration of railway networks from TDM to IP/MPLS technology. The Panel of Telecom Expert group would like to extend sincere gratitude to Alcatel-Lucent and other industry partners for their support. The railway telecommunications networks, whether they support safety-related applications, or business related applications, are based on standard communication technologies, specifically configured for the circumstances and requirements of each railway operator. One of the key points of the railway telecommunications systems are the specific configurations derived from the application requirements, because in the case of safety-related communications the service availability and Quality of Service parameters are extremely high, and cannot be achieved in standard configurations.
