Demonstrating crosswind safety of railway lines
The International Union of Railways (UIC) develops and distributes International Railway Solutions (IRSs) in order to help railway stakeholders achieve further harmonisation and collaboration.
This IRS deals with methods for:
- assessing the crosswind safety of passenger rolling stock with design speeds between 140 km/h and 250 km/h,
- assessing wind exposure along railway lines, and
- demonstrating the crosswind safety of railway lines with appropriate wind mitigation when required.
This IRS aims to close gaps in the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs) by providing common crosswind line assessment and safety evaluation methods for infrastructure managers and crosswind limit values for rolling stock manufacturers.
It is therefore primarily addressed to infrastructure managers, but is also relevant for rolling stock manufacturers.
